Job Description

Main Duties of the Security/Customer Support Officer:

  • The Security/Customer Support Officer will provide a highly visible security presence which is easily identified by both customers and colleagues whilst providing an exceptional level of customer service.
  • To proactively deter and prevent anti-social behavior, theft and criminal activity
  • The Security/Customer Support Officer will liaise with local Police and store management teams at regular intervals to maintain a healthy working relationship between the Center, the local police and local crime partnerships.
  • Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities and provide
  • Be vigilant and report suspicious behavior/activity at all times
  • Utilizing conflict resolution in order to diffuse difficult situations that may arise within the workplace.
  • Ensure effective communication to officers and colleagues that create an integrated and coordinated approach to crime prevention and detection.
  • To ensure that all LS and Mitie policies are followed while on duty e.g. No smoking, use of mobile phones etc.
  • To unlock and lock the exterior mall doors and shutter to coincide with the centers opening and closing times
  • To regularly patrol the entire center remembering to check fire exits are kept clear, doors are operational etc.
  • To prevent accidents by the early detection and elimination of risk elements
  • To respond to any requests for first aid assistance
  • To act as the initial response to any fire alarm activation and if required participate in the further evacuation of the center
  • To act as the initial response to any bomb threats and if required participate in the further evacuation of the center
  • To act as the initial response to any lost or found children etc
  • To observe, monitor and report any acts of criminal damage, vandalism, unauthorized activity etc and take the necessary appropriate action
  • To assist shop staff dealing with difficult customers/visitors
  • To act as a visible deterrent to shoplifters, vandals etc and provide reassurance to shop staff and customers
  • To report any faults or defects to the control room or other relevant departments in a timely manner
  • To respond to staff and public inquiries with a high level of customer service
  • To escort staff and visitors when required
  • To complete any accident or incident reports as and when required
  • To perform any other reasonable task as may be required by Center Management, consistent with the provision of a high standard security service. e.g. immediate onsite response to any emergency as deemed appropriate

Person Specification of the Security/Customer Support Officer:

  • Licensed to SIA Security Officer level
  • CCTV SIA License
  • Strong customer service, client focused attitude with the ability to build good working relationships
  • To work singly and as part of a team resilient and tenacious with a "can do" approach
  • Excellent at problem solving and have an ability to be resourceful
  • To defuse potentially violent situations
  • To recognize nonverbal cues that indicate both frustration and anger
  • To identify triggers which may steer to conflict
  • To be sure without being antagonistic
