About us

As part of our work in Joint Communications and Radar Transmission, the UCL Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering Group, invites applications for one (1) postdoctoral research position in Dual Communications and Radar Transmission.

The successful candidate will work on the recently awarded EU JU-SNS project 6GMUSICAL: 6G-Multiband Wireless and Optical Signalling for Integrated Communications, Sensing and Localisation, on the topic of Dual Communications and Radar Systems. This project aims to investigate develop signal processing concepts that allow sensing and data signalling simultaneously.

About the role

The role will involve new fundamental transceiver design by developing signals for radar transmission that also communicate information.

We are looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher to join our team and help us fulfil the project's goals, producing quality research. The work will involve signal processing design and optimization for dual communications and radar waveforms including algorithm development, simulation and testing, and publishing high quality research papers in leading journals. The successful candidate will work within an established research team led by Prof Christos Masouros.

The post is available from June 2024 for 24 months in the first instance. Further funding to support the post may be available.

About you

Candidates should have a PhD degree (or about to submit) in a relevant subject area, or similar experience demonstrated via publications in international journals/conferences or patents. The researcher should have knowledge of Wireless Communications, including signal processing for Wireless Communications or Radar Systems, including signal processing for Radar Systems. The researcher needs to possess significant experience in the analysis, design and simulation of advanced communication or radar systems. Strong programming skills in MATLAB and Python or other relevant systems will be essential. Knowledge of Physical Layer security, including signal processing for PHY security will be advantageous for candidates.

If the successful candidate has not yet been awarded their PhD, appointment will be made as a Research Assistant (Grade 6B). Payment at Grade 7 will be backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis including corrections, once the PhD has been awarded. Research Assistant (Grade 6B): point Salary range £37,332 to £39,980 (inc. London Allowance of £5,000 pa).
