Purpose

Our Customer business is responsible for the supply of electricity and gas to almost five million domestic and business customers throughout the UK, including customer registration, billing and handling enquiries in respect of these services. This division is also responsible for the associated metering activity, the smart meter installation programme and for managing the Group's smart solutions activities including the UK's first nationwide installation service for air source heat pumps, solar panels, batteries and electric vehicle ( EV ) charging.

Also responsible for managing the Group's exposure to the UK wholesale electricity and gas markets and the optimisation of gas storage, the Business Compliance Officer will focus on strengthening the culture of ethics and integrity across the Customer business and to implement the regulations of the Compliance Unit, as approved by the SPRHL Board of Directors. This will entail the promotion of high standards of legal and professional compliance throughout the business and the design and oversight of all key components of a best practice Compliance and Ethics programme.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, the purpose of this role is to strengthen the culture of ethics and integrity across the customer business and to implement the Regulations of the Compliance Unit. This entails the promotion of high standards of legal and professional compliance and the design and oversight of all key components of a best practice Compliance and Ethics program.

You'll provide guidance, advice, and challenge to the business including the Executive team on all compliance matters. You'll lead the implementation of best practice governance, awareness, and training about the Compliance and Ethics Framework across the Customer Business, and you'll manage the Compliance Unit of the Customer Business. You will represent the Compliance Unit at senior-level internal goveranance bodies.

As the Business Compliance Officer, you'll provide input to the annual budget and activity plan for the Compliance Unit and have the overall responsibility of ensuring the conformity of regulatory processes governing crime prevention, anti-bribery, and anti-corruption. You'll promote and manage the Speaking Out programme for the Customer Business, carrying out related investigations and processing complaints and enquiries on all matters of compliance and ethical conduct.

What you'll bring

Experienced in the development and implementation of risk management frameworks, compliance monitoring programmes and reporting of effectiveness and appropriateness of systems, processes and procedures, you will possess an excellent understanding of compliance and risk issues.

With exceptional communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, you will be comfortable and effective in senior, off-the-record and on-the-record situations, displaying your ability to work effectively under pressure.

As Business Compliance Officer, you will be expected to pursue professional accreditation as a Compliance & Ethics professional with a suitable international accreditation body such as SCCE or ECI.
