About the role:

To assist the Trading Standards Service in providing its Animal Health and Welfare functions in accordance with relevant objectives, policies and procedures.

About you:

The successful candidate will:

  • Be experienced of working in an agricultural environment or working with farmed animals.
  • Have an understanding of statutory and regulatory Animal Health controls undertaken by the Trading Standards Service.
  • Be knowledgeable of current agricultural and animal health practices.
  • Be honest, reliable and committed.
  • Have the ability to work in a sensitive and sometimes stressful environment with the ability to manage workloads/conflicting demands or deadlines.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

What you will do:

As an Animal Health officer, you will:

  • Undertake inspections of premises and businesses, under Animal Health and Welfare legislation.
  • Investigate and report on breaches of animal health and welfare legislation.
  • Provide advice and assistance to businesses.
  • Liaise with partners and other organisations.
  • Support and assist collegues.
  • Where required, to work outside normal office hours.
