Role Purpose

You will lead an area of learning activity in learning, technology and information services. Contributing to the overall delivery of Registry and Academic Services (RAS) and the Institute's strategy.

Role and Responsibilities

  • To participate in a range of academic services and activities to support the teaching, learning, research and consultancy activities of the Institute.
  • To undertake formal liaison and work with academic staff; including learning opportunities, technology supported learning, study skills, information and IT literacies, new course development, quality assurance and evaluation activities.
  • To represent and promote the role of RAS across the Institute and in relevant boards, committees and similar meetings and events as required.
  • To contribute to learning, teaching and research across the institution.
  • To undertake a full range of teaching, briefings, seminars and workshops as required in support of learning, teaching and research and to evaluate the effectiveness of these activities.
  • Explore, implement and support new technologies and methodologies to enhance access to resources and to support learning.
  • Develop, design and deliver learning and teaching opportunities, and provide training and support for all staff and students.
  • To produce specialist learning support materials, guides and resources in all appropriate formats.
  • To undertake teaching, information and research activities for external fee-paying clients as required.
  • To provide outreach, partnership and collaboration and exchange with partners, individuals, companies and organisations locally, nationally and internationally for strategic and service benefit.
  • To use a appropriate performance measurement and assessment methods to monitor and enhance the service.
  • To undertake continuous personal development and knowledge exchange, particularly to maintain current awareness of relevant issues for the role.
  • To provide a comprehensive enquiry service, using all appropriate methods as required and to play an active role in the maintenance and development of the service.
  • Maintain current awareness in information technology, instructional design, pedagogy and sectoral developments.
  • Active participation as a member of working groups and teams across RAS and the Institute to develop/implement policies and procedures, facilitate decision-making, resolve problems, and implement assigned projects.
  • Provide effective, efficient and improving services that meet customer needs.
  • Generate funding through bidding, grant and foundation proposals.
  • Ensure that Information Services facilities comply with relevant Institute policies and (inter)national legislation and standards.
  • Be responsible for the planning and delivery of effective learner support as appropriate to the role.
  • Contribute to curriculum design and course planning particularly as these relate to the development of students' study skills in HE.
  • Ensure that you are familiar with Institute and national plans and policies, technological, legal and other developments that influence the delivery of Information Services.
  • Manage effectively any budgets assigned to you (this will include the planning and authorisation of expenditure).
  • Manage projects proactively to enhance service delivery.
  • Planning, delivery, evaluation, development and promotion of customer focussed services within a specific area, or areas, of responsibility - including one or more RAS-wide functions (for example, study skills, project management, PDP etc.).
  • To manage and promote commitment to high quality customer care.
  • To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Academic Registrar.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Appropriate teaching qualification PGCHE or working towards one.
  • Relevant membership of a recognised professional body.
  • Experience in supporting student skill development with relevant delivery, assessment and student support in Higher Education.
  • Demonstrable organisational and personal management skills.
  • Demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills with evidence of a commitment to team working and teaching.
  • Experience in teaching skills to either domestic or international students in UK Higher or Further Education.
  • Experience in planning and running complex education courses in Academic Skills.
  • Experience in leading the provision of academic skills within HE environments.
  • Experience of partnership working in the education sector.
