The Modern Languages Faculty comprises a strong team of three highly experienced teachers in addition to the Head of Department. The ability to offer French and/or Spanish is essential. Every student learns at least one language at Dorcan and our more able students learn both French and Spanish at KS3. Progress in languages has been improving year on year and it is important that this success continues and develops further under new leadership.

Learning a foreign language is a vital part of our school curriculum and provides an opening to and a better understanding of other cultures. The teaching of high-quality languages education at The Dorcan Academy fosters students' curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world. Our aim is to broaden students' horizons and encourage them to step beyond familiar cultural boundaries and develop new ways of seeing the world and becoming global citizens.

Every member of staff receives bespoke support and development through our in-house coaching programme as well as additional professional development opportunities to promote further progress and career enhancement. We are committed to challenging, supporting and developing staff and students to 'Aspire to Greatness' so that we become the best that we can be. In a recent survey 98% of staff said they were proud to be a member of staff at The Dorcan Academy with 94% stating that they enjoy working here. 100% said that they support the vision of the academy.

We have been on a journey of improvement over the past seven years and in July 2022 were judged GOOD in all categories by Ofsted which is a major achievement. In our school students are ready to learn and 'low level disruption is rare'. Ofsted were impressed with the excellent behaviour of our students both in lessons and around the school. We pride ourselves on being an 'academy of opportunity' for all with excellent relationships.
