Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

The Centre of Governance and Human Rights (CGHR), housed within the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS), is seeking to appoint a part-time Centre Coordinator for 21 hours per week.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of students, researchers and faculty from across the University and beyond to deliver the Centre's activities in line with its strategy. This involves providing coordination support for a range of people and locations across diverse activities from research, publicity/outreach, events, practitioner relationships and wider engagements. The post-holder will coordinate the CGHR Student Group. They will also organise events and meetings, coordinate Centre promotion and contribute to the gathering and analysis of data. The role involves supporting a range of communications activities, including managing the Centre website and social media, and helping to improve them. The post-holder is also responsible for an efficient administrative service across all aspects of the Centre, offering a clerical service to the Centre Co-Directors and responding to all Centre enquiries. They will provide administrative support for the financial management of the Centre accounts. Under the direction of the Co-Directors, the role provides scope for contributing new ideas to build upon the Centre's past successes.

This is a varied role requiring a strong coordinator and administrator. The successful candidate will be educated to A Level standard or above with a high level of competence in standard software packages. They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to relate to people from a diversity of cultures and across a range of professional roles. They will be a highly organised and proficient administrator with a demonstrable ability to prioritise their own workload and work autonomously. It is desirable that they also have an interest and/or experience in human rights and governance themes at the Centre in order to contribute ideas for enhancing Centre activities.

CGHR Overview

CGHR thinks critically and innovatively to foster citizen voice and solidarity-building towards a just, inclusive and better world. In our 15 years, we have learnt that the crucial spaces for new thinking and action on justice, well-being and citizen voice challenges lie at intersections and in interactions between practice and scholarship, between disciplines, and between individuals and institutions across the world.

CGHR is run by Co-Directors Dr Ella McPherson (Sociology) and Professor Sharath Srinivasan (POLIS) and has, at any time, at least 1-2 postdoctoral researchers associated with it. Beyond, it is an active network of faculty and researchers from the Departments of POLIS and Sociology and across the University, who engage in its work on an ad hoc basis. In addition to research on priority themes, the Centre holds a wide range of events, seminars and dissemination activities and has regular involvement with practitioners as well as academic colleagues.
