Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

Are you passionate about communications? Do you want to work for a world-leading department fostering transformative thinking and global change? The Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) has an exciting vacancy for a Communications Manager.

The Communications Manager leads all communications work for the core department and liaises with communications staff in our research centres, ensuring a coordinated approach which meets strategic objectives.

Communications work is fluid and changeable, and the Communications Manager has autonomy to shape our activity according to departmental strategy and the evolving needs of ODID and its research centres.

The post-holder will deliver and evaluate our communications according to our new communications strategy, working closely with senior management including the Head of Department and Head of Administration and Finance.

The role has specific primary responsibility for day-to-day communications activity, including promoting the core teaching and research of the department through all relevant channels (web, print, digital, newsletters, social media), and managing all internal communications for staff and students such as regular email bulletins.

Secondly, the role manages our alumni relations work, maintaining a key contact point for our former students and ensuring they continue to feel well connected to ODID.

Thirdly, the role has significant input into research impact and the Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, in close coordination with staff elsewhere in ODID and in the Social Sciences Division.

The role combines strategic and operational responsibilities and the Communications Manager requires an innovative and flexible approach to developing new ideas.

The postholder will have extensive communications experience in print, digital, and social media.

They will also have the ability to work independently in a complex environment, taking initiative when necessary and prioritising effectively to meet deadlines.

Excellent writing skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to communicate complex concepts to a non-specialist audience, are essential for this role.

At ODID we embrace and cherish our differences, and endeavour to be considerate and welcoming of all. You are most welcome at ODID, without the need to hide any part of who you are. We acknowledge societal inequalities and how these affect us, and those around us, personally and professionally.

We hold an Athena SWAN Bronze award in recognition of our efforts to introduce organisational and cultural changes which promote equality, cherish diversity and create a better working environment for all.

We are also taking active steps to promote race equality and reduce the risk of bias and discrimination.

We work together to enrich, fortify and grow our community and dedicate our combined efforts to teaching and research to increase our impact and influence in development debates at the national and global level.

We encourage all eligible candidates to apply for our vacancies and join us in pursuing our goals.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
