Head of English Permanent - September 2024 MPS/UPS + TLR2 'Good' department, Selly Oak Lead and manage a large English departmentWe are seeking an inspirational and dynamic Head of English to lead this 'Good' English Department in Selly Oak. As the Head of English, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of English education within the school. You will lead a large and dedicated team of English educators, including three Early Career Teachers (ECTs), ensuring that the department delivers outstanding teaching and learning experiences for all students.Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the English Department, promoting a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Lead, motivate, and support a team of passionate English teachers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive working environment.
  • Develop and implement a stimulating and comprehensive English curriculum, aligned with the National Curriculum and the school's ethos.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department, implementing strategies for improvement where necessary.
  • Oversee the assessment and tracking of student progress in English, using data to inform intervention strategies and support student achievement.
  • Forge positive relationships with students, parents, and external stakeholders, advocating for the importance of English education.
  • Stay abreast of developments in English education, incorporating best practices and new methodologies into departmental planning and delivery.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant academic qualifications in English or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a successful English educator, with a track record of raising student attainment.
  • Previous leadership experience within an English department or similar role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • A passion for English education and a commitment to promoting literacy and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities, with the capacity to use data to drive improvement.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider leadership team.
