Our client, a mid-sized construction business who are thriving and expanding, are looking to recruit a Trainee / Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team based in Salford and work in multiple sectors to assist in the delivery of a first class service to bother supply chain and clients.


The successful candidate for this Trainee / Assistant Quantity Surveyor role will be from a Main Contracting background with some previous experience.

The role requires a candidate with good communication skills to work within the team providing support and leadership to colleagues.

The candidate should be self motivated and well organised, be able to prioritise workloads to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget whilst maintaining a good working relationship within the supply chain.


Job Role:
The main duties of this Trainee / Assistant Quantity Surveyor role will include:

Working with delivery team to ensure tender documents are issued to a good standard encompassing all elements of the relevant package.

Obtaining tender prices from suppliers and contractors.

Carry out Sub contract tender analysis, ensuring rates are relevant and consistent in the current market, presenting these reports to the senior team and project manager.

Placing contracts with proposed sub-contractors using the company bespoke forms of contract.
Managing materials required by site, placing orders with suppliers and builders merchants, ensuring we are within budget.
Complete and issue regular costs reports, giving feedback on buying targets, variations and forecast final accounts.
Ensure all contract and sub contract management / process obligations are fulfilled
Assist with the expansion of the supply chain, sourcing local sub-contractors as well as using existing supply network.

Compile Bills of Quantities / materials take-offs for live projects, working with the delivery team and assisting in ordering and managing materials on site.

Agree and produce final accounts for agreement.
Sub Contractor management, including processing of valuation applications and issuing relevant notices within prescribed timeframes.

Ensuring sub-contractor valuations are processed and advised in a timely manner with payment schedules issued to management to ensure accurate cash flow forecasting.

Skills / Qualifications Required
The successful candidate for this Trainee / Assistant Quantity Surveyor role will possess:

Professionalism in both attitude and appearance at all times.
Minimum degree level qualification in Quantity Surveying or similar recognised qualification
CSCS card would be preferred, but is not a requirement
Approachable, good personality, able to interact with all parties.
Recent experience working in a similar market / environment
A working appreciation of contracts and basic ability to read / understand duties imposed
Excellent communication skills.
Reporting skills / Administrative writing skills.
Fundamental understanding of maths essential
Basic understanding of construction methods and technologies

Good level of IT Skills:
competence in Word/Excel as a minimum.
Managing processes / Organisation / Effective time management and working efficiently.
Analysing Information/Problem solving, proactive rather than reactive where possible.
Ability to manage, build and develop both internal and external relationships to an exceptional level.
Driving licence. Due to the nature of sites travel will be essential.

This role is offered on a full time, permanent basis with a competitive salary and benefits package dependant experience and qualifications.


Normal working hours are 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday however this is flexible dependant upon the business needs.
