Job Scope:

Working within the R&D build team, taking responsibility for R&D maintenance activities, in order to achieve the objectives of the department and develop the best performing tyres for Pirelli's customers

Role Responsibilities:

  • Full changing of sizes on any building machine (1st and 2nd stage) ensuring correct set up for the specification being built
  • Repair and maintenance of rubber processing machinery and supporting services including mechanical transmissions, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment and components as required as well as installation of new machine parts/upgrades
  • Diagnosis/fault finding/inspection of malfunctioning mechanical systems, equipment and components to keep machines running
  • Routine maintenance, lubrication schedules and safety related parts of machinery checks
  • Assist other electrical and mechanical team members to complete required maintenance work
  • Effect repairs using techniques including MIG/MMA/TIG welding of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, fabrication skills, manual machinist skills (lathe and vertical/horizontal milling and bench fitting and assembly), tyre mould inspection.
  • Machining of drum shells and bead rings as required for R&D builds and production
  • Carrying out safe lifting operations using overhead cranes, hoists and other lifting appliances
  • Comply with all safety norms and regulations of working
  • Complete all tasks as assigned by the supervisor or team leader as efficiently as is possible
  • Following all standard operating procedures of working
  • Attending relevant training and development activities as required
  • Reporting of work being completed via feedback systems and checksheets, using information and data available, to allow for efficient product development and improvement
  • Giving input to development engineers to help problem solve as required for sizes that are being built using knowledge of the machine functionality and capabilities
  • Carrying out such other duties as may be reasonably requested by the line manager, or any senior manager (Likely to include other R&D areas) including flexibility in working different shifts to satisfy business needs.

Required Qualifications and Aptitudes:

Education and professional backround:

  • Time served Mechanical Maintenance Engineer/Fitter (or relevant industrial experience) with appropriate Technical qualification (essential)
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic principles and ability to read and understand complex schematic drawings (essential)
  • Good aptitude for mechanical repairs including manual machining, bench fitting, welding and fabrication skills with experience of maintaining and fault finding on industrial machinery (essential)
  • IPAF 3a and 3b license and accredited counterbalance FLT license (desirable)
  • Willingness to undertake training and put into practice (essential)

Personal aptitudes:

  • Problem solving skills and good level of attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • Self motivated, focused and proactive in approach
  • Able to work effectively and efficiently both on own initiative and as part of a team
  • High level of resilience and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Adaptable and flexible in approach

The work pattern for this role is:
