The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. Our academic members of staff include occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses: Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses. The School is undergoing exciting changes and expansion with the introduction of a host of new courses, including Speech and Language Therapy Apprenticeships and the Masters in Global Public Health.

Duties of the Role
The School is seeking to appoint two Lecturers in Speech and Language Therapy to complement our existing team. The posts include a significant contribution to our Speech and Language Therapy courses at Colchester campus, which include an undergraduate, postgraduate, and degree apprenticeship course. It is expected that as a member of staff you would assist the Head of Division, providing practical support to the team, undertaking programme/ module leadership, teaching, and assessment duties where needed, as well as supporting allocation and preparation of students for their clinical placements. We are particularly interested in attracting applicants with areas of specialism in adult acquired communication difficulties and in Eating, Drinking and Swallowing.

This role will require management, administration, and organisation alongside support of students on our existing programmes, and generally enhancing our research-led teaching in Speech and Language Therapy. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the School's growing CPD portfolio and to other courses across the School.

There are two posts available – one full-time, and one part-time working 21.6 hours per week (0.6 FTE). Please state clearly on your application if your preference is for full-time or part-time working.

Skills and qualifications required
To be successful you will hold a relevant doctoral level research degree or equivalent professional experience or practice or be close to completion of PhD and have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate.

You will demonstrate a commitment to uphold the HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and exhibit professional behaviours and attitudes in keeping with the HCPC and NHS values. Experience of working independently in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways and strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are also essential.
