Support Worker Fieldwork

We are looking to recruit a permanent support worker to work in North Fieldwork services to support, assist and advise children and their families with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) under Section 54 (Schedule 3) of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002.
The local authority is restricted by legislation in what it can provide in terms of assistance and support to families and therefore the successful candidate will need to know what the role of the authority is and be able to provide relevant guidance to families, exploring existing resources of help and support in the community, voluntary groups and social networks etc.
Candidates will carry out Child in Need visits for children under 18 years old who are in families where a social worker has assessed that there are no welfare or safeguarding concerns under the Children's Act 1989, but the family remains NRPF.
The local authority has a duty to ensure that families who are NRPF with children are supported under S17 (Children Act 1989) to ensure they do not become destitute. Successful candidates will also be responsible for presenting information to the No Recourse to Public Funds panel.
Candidates will ideally have experience of working with families from abroad and have some knowledge of immigration rules and how they impact on families Candidates will also need to have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work with families in an empathic way. Candidates will also need to have good reporting and recording skills.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
