Lead Playworker

Empowering Learning is collaborating with a primary school in Shadwell Leeds to find a Lead Playworker. This role involves overseeing the before and after school club for children in year 1 to year 6. The morning club starts at 7:15 am and finishes at 9:30 am, while the after-school club runs until 6 pm.

The ideal candidate should have previous experience working with children, with an essential requirement of NVQ level 3 in childcare or equivalent. Prior experience in a wrap-around provision or similar role is preferred. The Lead Playworker will be responsible for managing a small club, with a maximum of 20 children attending each session.

The main tasks include planning play activities for the children, managing their behavior, and assisting with classroom duties and off-site recreational activities.

Duties:
  • Support the lead teacher in implementing educational programs and activities
  • Provide assistance to students with special needs, including autism
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Help students with daily tasks and personal care
  • Support students in academic and social development
  • Collaborate on individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback
  • Assist in classroom and behavior management
Skills:
  • Experience working with children, including those with special needs
  • Knowledge of special education practices
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to handle challenging behaviors
  • Knowledge of toddler care and development is a plus
