The role

At Hatch we are hiring Research Consultants for our Urban Solutions team in London and Manchester. Our Urban Solutions Team sits within our Infrastructure business unit and is the economics, urban planning and real estate strategy arm of Hatch, delivering strategic economic development services to public and private clients.

In the UK our Urban Solutions team works closely with our Environmental and Advisory groups, and the successful candidates will be encouraged to work on projects in these other divisions as well as Urban Solutions.

As a Research consultant you will work as part of high-performing teams delivering innovative solutions to private and public sector clients. Recent projects have included supporting Aviva Investors to develop an innovative social value framework, a new economic strategy for the city of Oxford, and an impact assessment of BT's UK operations.

Specifically you will work in an integrated team making a vital contribution to the evidence, insights and advice we provide, with responsibilities including collecting and analysing economic and social data, reviewing policy and research, supporting project consultations, active participation in client, stakeholder, and team meetings, survey design, mapping, and economic and social impact modelling.

  • Defining the future: We provide forward thinking about city futures and place-making, working on strategies, visions, investment and delivery plans.
  • Securing investment: We support our clients to secure investment in projects by preparing business cases and economic appraisals.
  • Assessing impacts:We enable our clients understand their impacts through social value and economic impact assessments, strategies to maximise the economic and social benefits they deliver, and evidence that helps make their case.
  • Establishing what works: We identify lessons to improve performance and increase impacts through the evaluation of programmes, projects and organisations.

Ideally, you will have
  • A degree, probably in subject areas such as economics, geography and planning, development/ international development, social research and public policy, data science and analytics etc
  • Strong numeric and analytical skills
  • Effective writing and presentation skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to problem solve and think through complex questions
