About the team or project:

The Research Fellow role will be part of the University's new Institute of Children's Futures and located in the School of Education, based in the vibrant Brooks Building on our Manchester campus.

The School of Education includes a range of taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and internationally renowned research in the Education and Social Research Institute (ESRI). We ranked of 9th for research power in REF 2021; 100% of our research impact in Education was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. We placed in the top 150 in the 2023 QS rankings.

About the role:

We are seeking a Research Fellow to develop the foundations for child health and social care research. We value the role of lived experience and the role will involve building research participation with children and young people. Our position within the health and social care system in Greater Manchester is strong and the role holder will work to develop our connections with a range of strategic partners.

We are preparing large grant submissions to attend to the national and globabl challenges that affect children's health. The role will be focused on our priority to prevent the decline in chidlren's mental health.

The postholder will make a substantial contribution to securing funding and be responsible for the project management of large grant applications. This role includes co-ordination and partnership working, critical analysis and synthesis of research to develop new theoretically promising approaches for research and system innovation.

About the candidate:

Democratising research methods will be central to the success of this appointment through connectivity, co-design and co-production and by being grounded in a children's rights-based mindset.

The successful candidate will possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge of one or more of the following areas; child health, social care, child development and education (including professional practice). They will have experience preparing successful large grant applications. They will be experts in qualtiative resarch methods and also be able to critically appraise quantitaive research.

They will be able to analyse and evaluate findings from the continuum of research approaches and be able to assemble and disseminate findings in written and spoken academic outputs. Experience of working on programme grants is highly desirable. They will be proactive in identifying future research and innovation opportunities in the field. They will demonstrate a track record in project management and have an interest in complex intervention design and systems methodologies.
