Band 5 Assistant Psychologist

*This is a fixed term contract until 31 March 2025 due to services being recommissioned*.


The post holder will work as part of the Bristol specialist psychology service within Bristol's drug & alcohol treatment system.

The role involves assisting with the delivery of 1:1 and group psychological interventions to service users whose substance use has brought them into contact with the criminal justice system, under the supervision of a clinical psychologist.

The role will also involve supporting the teaching and training of other professionals on


psychological theory, research and its application to clinical practice, carrying out audits and service evaluations as required and working collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team.



Main Duties:
Clinical

  • To assist the delivery of a clinical psychology service under the supervision of the service clinical psychologist.
  • To provide psychological interventions to both individuals and groups under the direction and clinical supervision of the service clinical psychologist.
  • To work independently on a day to day basis, after goals have been agreed and reviewed in weekly clinical supervision.
  • To gather and organise information about opportunities and resources in the local area which may be of benefit to clients referred to the service (e.g. voluntary and community
organisations, etc).

  • To work alongside other team members and ensure close liaison and communication with the BSDAS team and partner agencies.
  • To maintain a high level of professionalism at all times when working with distressed people.
  • To maintain good standard of clinical records and statistics in line with AWP requirements as appropriate.
