Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 months.

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant (RA) to join the Prorok Lab in the Department of Computer Science and Technology, at the University of Cambridge, UK. The position is fixed-term for 3 months, with an ideal beginning in June 2024.

The Research Assistant will work together with a team of PhD students and research collaborators on the creation of Digital Twin environments that enable simulation based learning of navigation policies. Together with the project team, the RA will travel to client sites to scan workspaces with specialized telemetry equipment. They will be responsible for ensuring high quality twins, and will interact with the project team on the development of effective machine-learning models to be deployed within these twin environments.

The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent implementation skills (especially in Python and Pythorch), be results-driven, and will be comfortable working with real-world systems and robots.

This project is part of an Impact Accelerator fund for the commercialization (spin-out) of the lab's research inventions. The project, "Planning with a Hundred Eyes", envisions visual sensor-based navigation for challenging work environments.

The Prorok Lab in the Dept. of Computer Science & Technology, has a variety of robotic platforms (aerial and ground), and boasts expertise in controlling and deploying them in practice, as well as in designing coordination strategies for them. A high degree of self-motivation, research-oriented thinking, and a drive for getting real robotic systems up and running are all essential traits in members of this lab.

Applicants should contact Prof Amanda Prorok for further information.
