About the team
First Group are creating a new IT Infrastructure & Service Management function. This team will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of IT Infrastructure across the organisation. This includes overseeing the delivery of IT infrastructure to meet the needs of the business, ensuring that IT services are aligned with the organization's goals and objectives, and effectively managing our suppliers and partners.
About the job
The IT Infrastructure Manager will be primarily responsible for managing the combined in-house and 3rd party resources forming the IT Infrastructure team. They will be responsible for managing the core cloud and on-premise based infrastructure across the Group.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- This is both a technical and a people management role.
- You will be responsible for day-to-day management of the team and for defining roles and responsibilities.
- You will develop your team through sharing information effectively, coaching and communicating a clear vision to ensure that your staff are productive, engaged and motivated to deliver your objectives.
- You will possess deep technical expertise across a variety of infrastructure technologies, including networks, cloud, compute, storage, backup and voice.
- The role requires technical decision making, both during BAU incidents and in long-term strategic design decisions.
- Lead the performance of the team and partners by driving delivery to time, cost and quality.
- As part of the journey to cloud technologies you will lead the adoption of the FinOps framework to not only manage costs but also to embed practices, tools, and culture into the organisation.
- Accountable for our Infrastructure technical roadmap, ensuring clear and effective processes are in place to ensure successful delivery.
- The IT Infrastructure Manager will be expected to provide specialist technical advice across the Group, and work with the Group IT Leadership team and other stakeholders to develop and implement IT strategies and roadmaps.
- Will be the primary point of contact for development of Digital Workplace and providing resources to support the IT PMO team.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in IT Infrastructure management
- Deep technical understanding of IT Infrastructure gained through proven solution delivery
- Previous experience of FinOps and embedding FinOps practices into a business
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with ITIL best practices
- Experience with change and release management processes
- Extensive experience in roles overseeing complex infrastructure functions.
Skills
- Strong skills across breadth of the IT Service Management discipline
- Proven, deep technical experience in Cloud, Compute & Storage
- Effective communication skills, able to express complex ideas simply and concisely
- Strong influencing skills across all levels of IT and third parties
- Strong vendor management skills in the context of a heavily outsourced business
- Strong facilitation, analytical and critical thinking skills
Knowledge
- Knowledge of ITIL and other initiatives that promote quality and process improvement
- General knowledge of all areas of IT Application and Infrastructure
- A background in regulated environments would be beneficial
- A background in large, complex Enterprises would be beneficial
