Hampshire, United Kingdom NATS Full time

We're thrilled to be looking for 5 new graduates to join NATS' Operations Division through our Early Careers programme at one of our main locations near Southampton (Hampshire). These positions offer a chance to get involved in overseeing two of the busiest air traffic control centers in Europe, a crucial element of the UK's national infrastructure. Are you up for a challenge? Can you showcase your excellence in your work? If so, keep reading the job description below and if it resonates with you, why not consider applying?

Who is NATS?

NATS stands as the UK's prominent Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP). Annually, we manage 2.6 million flights and ensure the safety of 250 million passengers within UK airspace. We deliver air traffic management (ATM) services in the UK airspace and extending into the North Atlantic region through 2 air traffic control centers and 13 UK airports, while also extending these services globally across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America.

We are shaping the future of ATM by prioritizing 'advancing aviation and maintaining airspace safety' and firmly believe that the vast opportunities and diversity within our organization make us an appealing option for undergraduates exploring their future career paths.

What does the Graduate scheme involve?

This 2-year program will take place at our Head Office in Whiteley (Hampshire). With the adoption of 'agile working,' you will have the flexibility to work at our modern office facilities and also from home when feasible.

We are hiring 5 new graduates to join the Operations Division among 1600 professionals in various fields. Within Operations, we have multiple teams collaborating to provide services to our clients. These teams include:

  • Airspace & Future Operations – setting the strategic direction for our operational services, designing and implementing new technology and airspace configurations to support it.
  • En Route ATM – planning and executing the daily service operations, collaborating with airlines to optimize airspace usage for efficient and environmentally friendly flight routes while upholding top safety standards.
  • Operations Support – delivering operational and management support to ensure smooth operation, encompassing operational policy, procedures, planning, customer relationship management, and business services.
  • Safety & Assurance – evaluating our present and future services/systems to enhance our safety performance continuously.
  • Operations Training – exploring new technologies for ongoing improvement in the specialized training of our operational staff, ensuring safe navigation of aircraft through our airspace.
  • Operations Resourcing – planning the right short- and long-term workforce strategies, forming agreements with staff and Unions to secure a skilled workforce capable of delivering exceptional service today and in the coming years.

During the initial 2 years, you will have the opportunity to rotate through various business areas, based on your skills and aspirations, acquiring valuable experience and enhancing your skills. These rotations will enable you to collaborate with diverse professionals, leverage different technologies, methods, and metrics to meet the evolving business needs. You will receive tailored training and coaching, working alongside a highly skilled operational team and utilizing their advanced systems.

Upon completion of the 2-year period, you will undergo an assessment interview to determine your eligibility for a permanent role at NATS, providing you with further chances to grow your skills and experience for a rewarding career path.

Why opt for NATS?
  • You will play a significant role in the daily operations of a vital component of the UK's national infrastructure.
  • You will gain valuable insights into our industry-leading aviation business.
  • You will work at the core of our organization, collaborating with fellow graduates, undergraduates, and seasoned professionals.
  • Your placement experience will be tailored to your strengths, allowing you to expand on your university-acquired knowledge.
  • We are dedicated to your personal and professional growth, supporting you in achieving your objectives.

Our success hinges on our people, as we aim to lead on technical, operational, commercial, and political fronts, and your contributions can help shape our future.

  • You should have obtained at least a 2:2 at the degree level and exhibit a keen interest in your field beyond academic studies. While not exhaustive, the following list outlines the skills and experiences that align with the roles we aim to fill:
  • Analytical skills incorporating qualitative and quantitative methods, such as operational analysis, workforce planning, and optimization of the air traffic network.

Alongside technical proficiency, you should possess strong interpersonal skills and resilience to navigate a dynamic environment with confidence. We seek individuals who excel in engaging and influencing others, with exceptional communication, problems-solving capabilities, and a drive to deliver results within demanding timelines.

You must also successfully clear NATS' pre-employment security checks.

What's in it for you?
  • Competitive salary - £30,000 annually
  • 28 days of holiday entitlement plus Bank Holidays
  • Leading defined contribution pension scheme in the market
