To assist the Head of Tax on all relevant indirect tax matters (both compliance and advisory) that affect the UK and international group. The role is diverse and challenging, covering all sectors of our business globally. Responsible for managing a large team to deliver key outcomes contributing to strategic development. Provides leadership & direction through subordinate Managers.

You'll be responsible for:

Accountable for managing compliance deadlines and identifying risk opportunities.Identifies areas of tax risk for the business.Delivers tax training.Draft papers to present to the board.Drafts responses to HMRC consultations where they affect the business.Identifies areas of tax planning and opportunities.Ensures the UK group is in line with the global Group's policies and any issues are communicated to the Group Head of Tax. Manages a large team (or several teams) of direct reports, driving the appropriate behaviours to achieve success and key performance indicators (KPIs), including a continuous improvement culture. Delivers continuous improvements in processes through application of best practices and lessons learned. Partners with multiple internal and external stakeholders, working in collaboration to (implement strategy/programmes/initiatives).Manages, influences & negotiates with key senior stakeholders (up to c-suite). Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.Overseeing the VAT Assistant, including review and sign-off of the VAT returns before submission.Liaising with Treasury with VAT forecasting and to ensure the timely and accurate payment of liabilities/timely allocation of VAT refunds.Providing analysis of VAT return data where required for audits and reviews.Lead in working with the relevant business teams in embedding required tax reporting enhancements and processes that impact VAT.Providing indirect tax guidance and advice to colleagues across the UK and the wider international group, across all sectors and group services (liability decisions, VAT documentation, contracts, business transformation issues, systems issues). Providing face to face training and attending site visits where necessary.Handling queries raised by the group's clients and supply chain, both in the UK and internationally.Providing support to the construction project teams charged with new residential builds, giving advice on Domestic Reverse Charge and the application of the zero rate to client billings and subcontractor payments. Auditing the same.Responding to queries raised by HMRC in connection with the group's activities and compliance matters.Providing information to the business on risks, opportunities, and relevant changes in relevant VAT/indirect tax regimes.

You'll need to have:

CTA – VAT route qualification.Minimum 3 years post qualification experience in a VAT advisory rolePrevious experience of cross border Indirect issuesAbility to manage own time and work.Excellent organisational skills and an ability to meet deadlines.Adapts and responds to change.

You'll also have:

ATT/CTA (or equivalent).Previous experience in an 'in-house' role.Previous experience advising construction businesses and property developers.
