Plymouth, Plymouth, United Kingdom Marine Biological Association of the UK Full time

Contract type: Fixed Term until 30 September 2026

Location: Plymouth

Hours: 37 hours per week

The Innovating Role

A fresh opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join a dynamic team for high-quality research within the OCEAN DEOXYFISH project. This project is aimed at gaining new insights and predictions into the effects of ocean deoxygenation on top predators, funded by an ERC Advanced Grant awarded to Prof David Sims, a Senior Research Fellow at MBA.

The chosen Postdoctoral Researcher will spearhead research in shark movement ecology in deoxygenated environments, focusing on the analysis of large bio-logging and oceanographic datasets to understand the impact of environmental changes and human-made threats on shark behavior. The position involves designing and leading research activities, data analysis, and publication writing for scientific journals. Ideal for a seasoned marine ecological data scientist.

This role provides the chance to contribute to a significant international project with a top-tier research team spanning six countries and collaborating with the Global Shark Movement Project. Based at the prestigious MBA Laboratory in Plymouth, UK, there is also an opportunity for involvement in fieldwork both in the UK and abroad.
