Start a new role whose focus is public art, from developing and delivering major projects to installing artworks in the Royal Docks.
The Royal Docks is undergoing an exciting transformation. Once London's gateway to the world, today the area is re-emerging as a major new residential, business and visitor destination. Centre stage in the area's regeneration is a bold ambition to be London's cultural engine, a world-class creative production centre that is internationally renowned for its distinctive and authentic cultural programme, making the Royal Docks an irresistible place to live, work and visit.
Five years into the programme, the cultural eco-system in the Royal Docks is growing, and the work of the Cultural Placemaking Team is adapting in response to this. We are therefore recruiting two Creative Producers, to commence work in the Autumn, one part time and one full time. They will support the implementation of the Royal Docks Cultural Placemaking Strategy including the delivery of an ambitious cultural programme. The Royal Docks Team is a joint initiative from the Mayor of London and Mayor of Newham.
The part-time Creative Producer (0.5FTE, 18.5 hours a week) will report to the Cultural Placemaking Manager. The primary focus of this post is public art: initiating opportunities, developing and delivering Royal Docks Team projects and supporting developers, landowners and local cultural partners, including The Line, to install artworks that reflect the people and place of the Royal Docks and its diverse communities.
You will need a proven track record of successful planning, delivery and evaluation of small and large scale public art projects. Experience of creative production is essential, as is working with a range of stakeholders including residents, local artists and creative organisations and Newham officers. Experience of licensing, health and safety, fabrication and planning (in the context of Public Art) is desirable.
Key responsibilities
Support the implementation and continuing development of the Royal Docks Cultural Placemaking Strategy and the realisation of its vision to be the Cultural Engine of London, thereby contributing to the transformation of the area into a world-class cultural district inspired by the Royal Docks' people, place and heritageCommission, programme and produce imaginative and accessible creative projects that respond to the strategy and to Royal Docks land and waterscape, heritage, and community, creating a distinctive programme that attracts, excites, and inspires residents and visitors. Identify and establish effective partnerships with Royal Docks organisations and retain an awareness of contemporary cultural practice, creative practitioners, relevant events, and cultural policy to support the development of Royal Docks' cultural programme.Collaborate on and progress initiatives to support the development of a thriving cultural ecosystem in the Royal Docks. Work collaboratively with local artists, cultural and creative organisations in identifying development opportunities, commissions, and supporting networks and new initiatives.Support the development and delivery of projects and initiatives that embed local communities and young people in the cultural life of the area, providing opportunities for creative participation, skills development and co-creation.Work with the Royal Docks Place team, developers and local venues to embed cultural in the public realm through one off events, meanwhile activities and in the longer term, supporting the Royal Docks cultural placemaking objectives and enhancing the area as a unique and distinctive creative district.Ensure that project objectives, target audiences, and outputs are identified, that data and feedback are collected and that evaluation supports the ongoing development of the cultural programme in line with Royal Docks Success Framework.Work closely with the Marketing Team to create and deliver project marketing plans, engaging with internal and external promotional agencies as required. Maximise opportunities for income generation associated with projects including through box office, trading and sponsorship, supporting the development for fundraising via grants, trusts and foundations.Manage project budgets, procurement and funding agreements in line with GLA guidelines.Contribute to reports and presentations concerning the cultural programme and projects for the Royal Docks Team and external organisations as required.Manage resources allocated to the post in accordance with the GLA's policies and Code of Ethics and Standards.Realise the benefits of London's diversity by promoting and enabling equality of opportunities, and promoting the diverse needs and aspirations of London's communities.Collaborate across the Royal Docks Team to support the wider aims of the Royal Docks Delivery Plan as appropriate, and undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required in the above post. Experience in initiating, producing, programming and delivering complex arts and cultural projects and the related resource and consultants.Experience in working with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders, artists and creative organisations to programme projects and to support their development.Experience in identify target audiences and supporting marketing teams to develop and implement project marketing plans.Experience of financial management, including setting and managing budgets and gaining approvals required for the work.Experience in raising earned income for cultural projects and events. GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
