We are currently seeking a Personal Achievement Tutor (PAT) to join The Bedford College Group at our Wellingborough Campus.


As a dedicated student support professional, your role encompasses a multifaceted approach. You provide essential tutorial support and foster professional skills development, ensuring students remain on track and achieve their full potential. Whether it's through one-on-one sessions or group tutorials, you cover a wide range of topics - from safeguarding and resilience to career readiness and well-being. As part of this exciting role, you will be PAT for several different areas for example - Health and social care, ESOL, Business and Computing.

As a Tutor you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Delivering Tutorial Support and Professional Skills Development - Provide personalized guidance to students, helping them stay on track and achieve their potential as well as offering support in areas such as study skills, time management, and career readiness.
  • Group and One-to-One Support in Vocational/Academic Areas- Work closely with students and conduct weekly one-on-one sessions to address individual needs and challenges.
  • Weekly Group Tutorial Sessions - Facilitate group discussions on various topics, including safeguarding, resilience, essential life skills health, and employability,
  • Pastoral Support for Student Success - Monitor attendance, punctuality, retention and Identify at-risk students and provide targeted interventions.
  • Collaboration and Student Progression - Coordinate with teaching staff, parents, external agencies to ensure students' progress and foster supportive environment.
  • Promoting Safeguarding and Student Well-Being - Actively promote the College's safeguarding policies and serve as a point of support for students, addressing their well-being and safety concerns.

Ideal candidates will have Knowledge/Experience of:

  • Working in a further education or related setting
  • Working in a student support or related role
  • Providing advice, guidance and/or education to young people and/or adult
  • Delivering group sessions to facilitate aspects of the tutorial curriculum
  • Knowledge of post-16 education opportunities and progression paths
  • Awareness of, and empathy with, the needs of students
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, equality and diversity issues in education
  • Knowledge of issues relating to confidentiality

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively with students both one-to-one and in groups
  • Ability to monitor student performance achievement and attendance and to take appropriate action to improve and support achievement
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse range of audiences including young people, parents, managers and team members.
  • Excellent organisation skills and ability to prioritise own workload, work under pressure and meet deadlines

Qualifications:

  • Good all-round education to include qualifications at Level 3
  • Maths and English to GCSE (Grade A – C) or equivalent
  • PTLLS or willingness to gain within a specified period
  • Willingness to work towards Level 2 Safeguarding and Youth Mental Health First Aid qualification

About The Bedford College Group
The Bedford College Group was formed in 2017 following the merger of Bedford College and Tresham College and is now the largest provider of education in the South East Midlands, with over 15,000 students passing through our doors each year.
