Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

Location: Department of Psychiatry, Warneford Hospital, Oxford

We are looking to appoint two Research Assistants in Flourishing and Wellbeing located within the Neuroscience, Ethics and Society (NEUROSEC) Team in the Department of Psychiatry. Led by Professor Ilina Singh, the NEUROSEC Team has an international reputation for its work in neuroscience ethics and psychiatric ethics and is uniquely situated within Oxford Psychiatry and Neuroscience, building collaborative research relationships with scientists, clinicians and public stakeholders, whilst maintaining a critical perspective and a portfolio of independent research projects. The post is based in the Department of Psychiatry and is full-time, although consideration will be given to candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 60% FTE) on a pro rata basis with appropriate adjustment of duties.

The posts are for a fixed term (funded for 18 months with the possibility of an extension).

Led by Professor Singh, you will be joining an exciting research sub-group within the NEUROSEC team, working on the NIHR Flourishing and Wellbeing Theme. You will be expected to manage your own research and administrative activities, within guidelines provided by senior colleagues as well as contribute to wider project planning and organisation, including ideas for new research projects. You will also select, follow, and adapt specialist methodologies to confirm or refute theories, and identify suitable alternatives where information or research material is restricted.

You should hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as psychology, psychiatry, bioethics or a relevant social science discipline. You must be able to demonstrate skills in literature review methodologies, and be able to effectively review and synthesise scientific and clinical literature. The ability to use (with understanding of limitations) current and emerging AI-platforms to facilitate rapid and comprehensive reviewing is also essential. Experience of contributing to research publications and knowledge of philosophy, sociology and/or bioethics approaches to mental health would be desirable.

You will be required to upload a supporting statement, a CV, and details of two referees as part of your online application.

The closing date for this post is 12.00 midday on 13 May 2024.

£32,332 to £38,205 per annum (with a discretionary range from £39,347 to £41,732 per annum) Grade 6
