About the role

King's Health Partners Women and Children Health Clinical Academic Partnership are looking for two Research Assistants to support the services we provide.

The postholders will work as a part of a small research team working on various research projects as part of the Ask the Institute research advisory service. You will be responsible for contributing research assistance, in particular conducting rapid literature reviews, supporting qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, evidence synthesis and drafting reports. The role includes some travel around South East London to collect data from recruitment sites, occasionally after hours in the early evening. This post will provide extensive experience and an important stepping-stone for anyone interested in developing their skills as a mixed methods researcher.

You will be expected to show initiative, problem-solving, a sensitivity to service user needs and preferences in capturing accurate, and representative data in a manner that is acceptable. You will provide administrative ad-hoc support to other researchers who take direct responsibility for managing projects.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months. This is a hybrid role; you will be expected to attend in-person at least one to two days a week.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • MSc awarded in Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Science, or related discipline
  • Experience conducting literature reviews (searching online databases systematically, screening articles and synthesising findings)
  • Good project and time management skills
  • Ability to use own initiative to deal with problems which may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
  • Experience working as part of a busy team, providing either administrative or research support
  • Strong IT skills, especially MS Office software (MS Word, Excel and Teams)
  • Committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, actively addressing areas of potential bias

Desirable criteria

  • Experience conducting focus group discussions and in-depth interviews
  • Experience using qualitative data analysis software (NVivo, MaxQDA etc) or statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS, Power BI etc)
  • Knowledge of National Health Service and other public services in the UK
  • Knowledge and understanding of the impact of wider determents of health on outcomes, particularly for people living in South East London
