Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

Contract type: Fixed term until 30th September 2025

Hours: Full-time

About the role

We are looking for a Human Factors Research Assistant to work in our QRSTU patient safety research team. You will be based in the John Radcliffe Hospital as your normal place of work.

Short description of the role: You will be working closely with other members of an established team on the RESPOND programme, a large randomised trial of a Human Factors intervention intended to improve rescue responses for patients who develop serious complications after emergency surgery. Your role will include implementing the interventions, coaching clinical teams to keep engagement high, and using quality improvement methodology to refine the intervention to individual hospital environments. You will also be involved in data collection and analysis, preparation and presentation of findings and writing scientific papers based on our results and experiences. There will be ample opportunities to develop your research and writing skills and to utilise Human Factors and QI methods. The implementation part of the study will involve some travel within the UK.

About you

You will have a BSc or equivalent first degree and some experience of conducting practical Human Factors or Quality Improvement interventions and analyses. Experience (either clinical or ergonomics) of working in a hospital or healthcare environment is desirable, and interviewing experience will be very useful. You will have some experience of working in an academic research group and understand the ethical requirements of working with confidential records. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced highly collaborative team and have excellent face to face communications skills. An ability to work independently and take the initiative when required is essential.

This full-time post is available from 1 October 2024 and is fixed-term until 30th September 2025 in the first instance. We would be willing to consider applications for part-time hours.
