We are seeking a talented and driven individual to take on the crucial role of Paper Supply Chain Manager. In this dynamic position, you will be at the forefront of ensuring the quality, look, and feel of our printed materials, as well as managing the logistics and costs of our paper supply chain. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with paper mills, printers, and internal stakeholders to forecast and manage paper stocks for all of our monochrome printings in the UK.

Your expertise in paper purchasing will be integral in guiding and influencing production decisions, making a tangible difference to the success of our department and the wider business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Forecasting and ordering paper for monochrome manufacturing, driving efficiency and cost savings in paper management.
  • Ensuring paper availability for printings while maintaining healthy stock turnover.
  • Implementing contingencies to mitigate against any forecasting constraints.
  • Managing a Paper Controller Assistant, driving their development and efficiency.
  • Liaising with senior production colleagues to agree on paper grades for non-standard printings and communicate effectively to the Production team.
  • Sharing knowledge with Production and Inventory Management teams to support their understanding of their roles in the paper buying process.
  • Providing detailed analysis for paper price negotiations.
  • Researching and sourcing new papers for production requirements to improve quality and commercial competitiveness.
  • Maintaining excellent relationships with printers and core paper suppliers.
  • Liaising with the Finance Department to ensure accurate and timely reporting of inventory valuations and paper costs.
  • Working with the Sustainability Production Manager to ensure environmental considerations are adhered to in paper management and purchasing.
  • Staying informed of environmental initiatives within suppliers' mills, practices, and the wider industry.

Preferred candidate profile:

  • You will be knowledgeable about the book production industry and will be deemed as our supply chain expert for paper
  • You will be adept with Excel and data
  • You will comfortable to communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • You will be passionate about our book production process
