LIFT OFF delivers of the Scottish Funding Council's "Schools for Higher Education Programme" (SHEP) within the National Schools Programme (NSP). It is a cross-sectoral partnership that aims to raise awareness of, and increase participation in, higher education amongst targeted young people attending secondary schools across Tayside and Fife.
We seek to appoint a full-time LIFT OFF Development Worker who should:
- Be passionate about the benefits of higher education
- Believe everyone should have a fair chance to access higher education
- Have up to date knowledge of college and university life and the student experience
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds
Reporting to Mel Rookes, you will help to deliver a range of exciting activities designed to inspire young people and support their transition to higher education. Working as part of a small team, you will engage with secondary school pupils in groups and individually; both virtually and in person, to provide a tailored programme that will bridge the gap between school and higher education. You will also be expected to contribute to reports and programme evaluation in line with SFC guidelines and national policy drivers. This will involve liaison with a wide variety of partners and stakeholders including colleges, universities, employers, local authorities and Skills Development Scotland.
Educated to degree level or equivalent, you should have experience of working with young people and developing and delivering resources and materials, ideally within a widening access context. An understanding of student support systems within higher education and barriers facing young people in accessing higher education would be advantageous, as would knowledge of the Scottish education system.
Extensive travel will be required across Fife, Dundee and Angus, as will some evening, overnight and weekend working. This post is based with the LIFT OFF team in Glenrothes, Fife who have adopted a hybrid working (home/school/office) policy.
