Job Purpose:
To undertake a range of financial tasks and procedures to
support the provision of financial services to schools.

Main Duties:
The following is typical of the duties the postholder will be expected
to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive and other duties of a
similar nature and level may be required from time to time.

  • To prepare revenue and capital budgets and provide monitoring information in
line with corporate and directorate requirements.

  • To support the finalisation of the outturn position, and the production of the
statutory accounts and associated working papers.

  • To maintain accounting records and financial systems, ensuring financial
controls operate in line with financial regulations.

  • To respond to queries, and provide advice and guidance to clients as required.
  • To action budget and other required changes in the General Ledger.
  • To produce statistical and management information from a range of sources.
  • To complete relevant grant claims and returns within specified deadlines.
  • To train staff in schools regarding the use of financial systems.
  • To work directly with School Bursars and Headteachers on the preparation of
budget monitor statements.

  • To deal with queries/concerns from School Management Teams regarding
financial transactions and the completion of financial returns, and to resolve
queries as far as possible without reference to School Business Managers.

  • To work with School Business Managers to ensure that an effective and good
value for money traded service is provided to schools.

  • To alert School Business Managers to concerns regarding the financial
management position in individual schools.

  • To promote and implement the Council's Equality Policy in all aspects of
employment and service delivery.
