Learning Support Worker in Merthyr Tydfil

The College Merthyr Tydfil is seeking an innovative and flexible individual who has a passion for helping others. The role is diverse, with a strong emphasis on team work and collaboration. Support is provided throughout all vocational and academic divisions in the college, on an individual or group basis. The role requires knowledge and experience in supporting within education.
Key responsibilities
- Work very closely with the ALNCo to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate a wide range of support mechanisms that will assist an individual learner to progress successfully through their studies.
- Deliver and where required assess support appropriate to the learner's vocational experiences, skills and knowledge
- Assess and identify support needs of applicants during the admissions and enrolment process as required
- Liaise with the Course Tutor to enable the individual support needs of a learner to be identified
- Under the direction of the ALNCo, manage learner records and data in accordance with the College's data management procedures.
- Actively promote learner independence
- To assist learners with the use of assistive technology and other specialist equipment, as required.
- Provide support for access arrangements in exams, such as acting as reader, scribe, invigilation or prompt, as required.
- Where appropriate support learners on placements, educational visits under the direction of the tutor or member of delivery team.
- Where appropriate assist learners moving around the college including to and from transport and be responsible for these learners during this period.
- When appropriate supervise and support learners at lunch and break times as timetabled and be responsible for these learners during this period.
- Provide in-class, small group or individual support, this could involve workshops that cover study skills and assignment support or targeted outcomes from an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
- When required have responsibility for the personal care needs of identified learners, including toileting.
- When required have responsibility for the medical needs of identified learners, including the administrating and handling of medicine
- Be flexible and proactive in approach to work to meet the business needs of the college
- Actively comply with the College Equality of Opportunity Policy
- Participate in and contribute to the College Performance Management and Review process
- Attend staff meetings and learning and development as required
- Actively comply with all college policies, including confidentiality and data protection.The safeguarding and promotion of learner well-being is the responsibility of all staff.
