Kelpi is a highly innovative, purpose-driven start-up with a mission to tackle the horrors of plastic pollution and climate change, by replacing single-use, fossil fuel-based plastics with biomaterials made from seaweed.

Kelpi is looking for a Senior Process Engineer to join our small but rapidly growing team comprising world-class scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs on a full-time basis.

You should have:
  • Significant industrial experience in an engineering field or closely related subjects, such as : extrusion, polymer processing, high-speed coating application, thin film production, paper and pulp processing, downstream packaging conversion, process and / or and quality engineering.
  • Experience of manufacturing in a regulated environment (e.g. food contact materials, foods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutraceuticals etc.).
  • Previous experience in scaling new products through from bench to full-scale manufacturing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and experience leading multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Ability to work independently, and within mixed projects teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrable interest in sustainability and innovation.
  • Excellent communication skills (and we will empower you to have the confidence to argue your case).
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute within a dynamic and agile team setting, bringing new ideas to life.
Your role:
  • As a Senior Process Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Production team in our industrialisation strategy and achieving scale up in our production.
  • You will lead the design, planning, and running of scale-up trials.
  • You will be responsible for identifying potential scale-up partners, managing projects with external stakeholders, and holding contractors accountable to deliver projects.
  • You will develop new production strategies, and work in close collaboration with the product development team to innovate process and engineering solutions which deliver products to the required and agreed quality specification.
  • You will collaborate with our Engineers and Scientists to investigate the impact of changing process and quality parameters from end-to-end in the production process.
  • You will ensure that at all times you, your work, and the people involved in your work are safe, and adhering to all relevant safety requirements.
  • Your work will contribute directly to our mission of advancing sustainable solutions for coatings and packaging.
Tasks involve:
  • Project Leadership : Take the lead on major process engineering projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and guiding junior engineers to ensure successful project execution.
  • Advanced Data Analysis : Conduct advanced data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for process improvement, leveraging statistical methods and predictive modelling techniques.
  • Technical Guidance : Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting their professional development and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team.
  • Financial Modelling : Develop sophisticated financial models to evaluate the economic feasibility of process improvements and investment decisions, providing insights to support strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards, staying informed about changes in regulations and proactively addressing potential compliance issues.
  • Risk Management : Identify and mitigate risks associated with process engineering activities, implementing robust risk management strategies to safeguard operations and protect the company's interests.

Where you will be based?

This is a full-time position based at our modern lab and office space in central Bristol, however we are open to discussions around part-time work.
