In the Immunology Research Unit (IRU) we integrate findings from genetic and genomic datasets, functional genomic screens and ground-breaking experimentation to identify and develop novel therapeutic targets for patients with unmet need. Within the IRU, our Genomic Immunology group focusses on identifying the next generation of clinical candidates by combining deep data exploration, hands-on experimentation and collaboration with other groups across GSK to build and validate novel drug hypotheses.

We are seeking a highly motivated Immunologist / Biologist to join the Genomic Immunology Group to support early target identification and validation projects in the Immunology space. This role will involve both independent and collaborative working within multidisciplinary matrix teams to experimentally interrogate the biology of novel targets using relevant functional genomic, molecular and cellular techniques, impacting across a number of drug discovery programs. This position will be based in Stevenage, UK.

In this role you will

  • Design and perform molecular, cellular, and tissue-based assays suitable for drug target identification and validation, with a focus on immunological cellular assays and analytical techniques.
  • Generate, analyse, interpret, and present experimental results to partners/collaborators and collaboratively design experimental paths forward.
  • Develop and execute new methods and protocols, and proactively incorporate new technology or techniques into practice with minimal supervision.
  • Generate study reports and maintain a detailed record of experiments in electronic lab notebooks in accordance with company policy.
  • Share in responsibilities to support general lab functions.

  • Degree in immunology, life sciences, cell biology, or related discipline.
  • Comprehensive understanding of key immunological principles.
  • Hands-on experience in immunological and molecular biology techniques, cell isolation and culture, and functional assays.
  • Experience in experimental design, execution, and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • PhD in relevant discipline or significant relevant work experience.
  • Technical expertise in gene editing, multi-parameter flow cytometry and cell sorting.
  • Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement in research, exemplified by a strong publication record and/or significant contributions to therapeutic development programs.
  • Strong verbal, written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledgeable, highly motivated, creative, and collaborative.
  • Learning agility and drive to continuously improve and develop.
  • Previous drug discovery experience in a biopharmaceutical, academic or government laboratory setting.
