Consultant in Breast

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Radiologist split approximately equally between breast and general / gynaecological radiology. The post is based in Ninewells Hospital Dundee with sessions in Perth Royal Infirmary. This post results from a combination of retirement, vacated post, and expansion of breast services.

Breast radiology

NHS Tayside manages the East of Scotland Breast Screening Programme co-located and combined with symptomatic breast imaging services for Tayside. We are seeking a candidate for Breast Radiology to work within a cohesive and supportive Breast multi-disciplinary team and to provide a high quality service in both symptomatic and screening settings. The East of Scotland Breast Screening Programme serves an eligible screening population of women.

Tayside Breast Unit is well-equipped with up-to-date breast imaging technologies, including digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM), ultrasound shear-wave elastography (SWE) and Breast MRI. We take pride in being research active, participating in various single and multi-centre trials and studies led by Dr Sarah Savaridas.

We benefit from excellent relationships with breast surgeons, pathologists and specialist nurses, who all contribute towards forming a strong multidisciplinary team-working approach. We have two consultant radiographers and an expanding team of advanced practitioners involved in film-reading, stereotactic procedures, ultrasound and biopsies. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute wholeheartedly to the education and training of both medical and non-medical staff, as well as undergraduate medical and other healthcare students.

General / Gynaecological radiology

We are seeking a candidate for diagnostic radiology duties with special interest in gynaecological imaging, working within multi-disciplinary teams and to provide a quality service.

The post is based in Tayside with potential sessional commitments in Stracathro or Perth Royal Infirmary. Currently the diagnostic radiology on-call frequency for this post is 1 in 15. A separate on-call rota for Interventional procedures is provided by Tayside Interventional Radiologists based in Ninewells Hospital.

You will have a clinical background in breast radiology symptomatic services and preferably be experienced in breast screening and assessment. You will be registered to practice by the GMC and will be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT or CESR at the time of interview for the post. The clinical performance of the postholder will be managed by the clinical leads of both services.

This is a replacement post with illustrative job plans of 10 programmed activities: 8 Direct Clinical care sessions; one SPA session and a further SPA session of agreed supporting professional activities or direct clinical care according to candidate's preference.
