About the School:
The RCA's School of Communication explores the fundamental ways communication shapes our lives, fostering new methods of interaction and expression through experimental and sometimes radical practices. The School supports the development of students and researchers as artists, communicators, curators, designers, and writers, encouraging them to delve deeply into their own work while engaging with diverse perspectives and global issues. Our work spans a range of media, including graphic novels, VR experiences, animated films, and sound showers, reflecting our commitment to cultural awareness, dialogue, and innovative ideas.
We have a vibrant research and knowledge exchange culture that merges communication practice and theory, addressing subjects from scholarly inquiry to public policy and social justice, as well as speculative practice-focused projects.
About the Programme:
The MFA Communication is a one-year Masters programme dedicated to examining how communication influences our lives and using this knowledge to develop innovative ways of interacting with the world. Starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, the programme will offer core units to help students situate their communication practices within a broader context, alongside elective units from across the College. This interdisciplinary approach allows students from various backgrounds to reflect on and expand their communication practices.
Purpose of the Post:
The main purpose of this role is to contribute to the delivery and enhancement of the MFA Communication programme. The postholder will lead a tutor group and deliver tutorials, lectures, seminars, and workshops. They will also participate in assessment activities and contribute to the programme's ongoing development through school-based discussions and enhancement activities. Additionally, the role includes a research component, with an expectation to undertake and contribute to the School's research culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Tutoring:
Lead a tutor group and deliver engaging tutorials, lectures, seminars, and workshops. Guide students in exploring social, political, environmental, and philosophical implications of communication practices. Support students in contextualizing and expanding their practices within the interdisciplinary landscape of communication. Programme Development:
Contribute to planning and ongoing enhancement of the MFA Communication programme. Participate in programme-based and school-based discussions and development activities. Assessment:
Engage in assessment activities to evaluate and support student progress and achievements. Research:
Undertake research that aligns with the School's dynamic interplay between communication practice and theory. Contribute to the School's research culture through scholarly and creative enquiry. Qualifications and Experience:
A strong background in communication practice, with a focus on innovative and interdisciplinary approaches. Experience in teaching, particularly at the postgraduate level, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. A record of research and scholarship in communication, with the ability to contribute to the School's research culture.
