Job Purpose

  • To carry out specialist and technically based operations of street lighting that require a high degree of skill, technical knowledge and experience
  • To undertake aspects of manual / supervisory and driving work for a range of Streetscene services
  • To oversee other staff carrying out the duties, ensuring the work is carried out safely and within the standards expected for the service
  • Driving HGV vehicles on scheduled operations whilst responsible for the workforce employed on the vehicle and the satisfactory delivery of the particular service

Principal Accountabilities

  • The post holder will be required to maintain, test, repair and install street lighting infrastructure, illuminated street furniture and other electrical equipment in accordance with relevant legislation and other Council policies
  • To follow verbal and written instructions, complete daily schedules and use appropriate mobile communication and IT support systems where applicable
  • To have responsibility for planning, checking and supervising other Streetscene colleagues on the full range of Streetscene services to ensure required standards of work are achieved
  • Have responsibility for the safe operation of daily work programs ensuring compliance with procedures and instructions given in relation to Health & Safety legislation and policies, to ensure the personal safety of the people under the control of the post and the safety of others
  • The post holder will be expected to carry out manual / supervisory work inclusive of HGV driving duties and other designated specialist vehicles and the operation of specialist equipment for any of the Streetscene services areas to which they have been allocated
  • The post holder will be expected to carry out general operational duties in the following work areas: Street Lighting and civil engineering works including excavation, laying ducts and cables, removal and erection of street lighting columns, winter maintenance & HGV driving in any of the service areas
