Post-doctoral Research Associate in Transport Transitions and Systems Analysis for Climate-compatible Growth

Glasgow, Glasgow City, United Kingdom University of Strathclyde Full time

A post-doctoral research associate is sought to contribute to the development of open-source transport modelling tools to support decision-makers in building policy and investment pipelines that support equitable low-carbon transport pathways in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The post holder will work as part of the Decarbonising Transport workstream of the £38m Climate Compatible Growth (CCG) research programme, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), with partner universities across the UK (University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University College London and Loughborough University) and with partner universities, research institutes and government agencies across an expanding network of CCG partner countries (presently Kenya, Zambia, Ghana, Vietnam, Laos and India).

The post holder will also contribute to the development and delivery of wider research strategy in the Decarbonising Transport workstream, including multiple projects in collaboration with institutions in partner countries and international organisations, including the World Bank, UN Environment Programme and the Asian Development Bank.

This position is funded until 31st March 2025, as the CCG programme is funded on an annual basis subject to review.

Following positive review of the CCG programme, the position can be extended beyond this date.

For more information on the CCG programme, see:

To be considered for the role, you will be educated to a minimum of PhD level in an appropriate discipline, or have significant relevant experience in addition to a relevant degree.

You will have sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge in systems analysis to support transport-energy system transitions and a developing ability to conduct individual research work, to disseminate results and to prepare research proposals.

You will have an ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively and an ability to work within a team environment.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences.

Whilst not essential for the role, applications are welcomed from candidates with: relevant work experience, membership of relevant Chartered/professional bodies (including the Higher Education Academy), experience of relevant student supervision and teaching activities, and/or experience of knowledge exchange related activities.
