Come and do the kind of engineering that made you want to be an engineer. Stretch your technical skills while building human understanding. Promote sustainability and create new materials. And, alongside world-leading scientists, technicians and technologists, shape projects that improve lives, and daily life, in the UK and far beyond.

The Hartree Centre

The Hartree Centre helps UK businesses and organisations of any size to explore and adopt supercomputing, data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for enhanced productivity, smarter innovation and economic growth. Backed by significant UK government funding and strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as IBM, Atos and the University of Liverpool, the Hartree Centre is home to some of the most advanced digital technologies and experts in the UK.

At the Hartree Centre we want to see UK businesses outperform their global competitors, create skilled jobs and push the boundaries of digital innovation. Our experts collaborate with industry and the research community to explore the latest emerging technologies, upskill teams, and apply practical digital solutions to individual and industry-wide challenges for societal and economic benefit.

The Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join the Research Software Engineering (RSE) group at the STFC Hartree Centre. As RSEs, we collaborate widely with industry and research communities to explore the latest digital and open-source technologies, upskill teams, and develop high-quality proof-of-concept solutions for industry challenges that have societal & economic benefit. By joining our team, you will benefit from a friendly and collaborative culture - while we are serious about industry relevant results, we ensure the journey is exciting and enjoyable. Backed by significant UK government funding and strategic partnerships with industry and academia, the Hartree Centre is well-established and in an exciting phase of expansion. The role has extensive benefits and learning and development opportunities that are second to none.

You will research business needs and build new applications, tools, and services by writing well-structured, tested, documented, and maintainable code. You will participate in agile development best practices, code reviews, refactoring, bespoke development, and deployment and scaling of applications using CI/CD.

Our team is not bound to a language, stack, or product. Our goal on any project is to generate impact and innovation for our client and for the Centre. This requires a strong collaborative and learning and development culture, which we achieve by working closely with our clients, attending conferences, participating in, and delivering training courses, and more.

Benefits

STFC values their employees by offering a benefits package designed to provide an excellent work/life balance. This includes 30 days' annual leave, 10.5 public and privilege holidays, flexible working hours, exceptional average salary pension scheme, social and sporting activities and societies and a subsidised restaurant.
