London, Greater London, United Kingdom Colfe's School Full time

We are looking for a qualified, enthusiastic and able graduate, with strong sporting credentials and interests, who will be fully committed to the work of the department and will contribute positively to its development. Colfe's School caters for pupils from age 3 – 18 and it is anticipated that the successful candidate will lead the netball programme across the school.

The department operates from offices in the Junior School and Sports Centre which comprises a large indoor sports hall, a six lane 25m indoor pool, two newly furnished fitness suites and associated indoor and outdoor changing in an attached pavilion. This centre runs as a very successful leisure club for the local community during the evenings, weekends and all school holidays. The PE department consists of a Director of Sport supported by an Assistant Director of Sport, Key Stage Coordinators, and a team of PE teachers, graduate assistants and numerous specialist coaches. A number of other teaching staff assist with games and school teams. The Junior PE team have their own office in the junior school and each of the teachers have their own key responsibilities. There is a strong link between the Junior and Senior School as staff and facilities are shared. In addition to the sports centre, the School has approximately 60 hectares of playing fields on three sites and a full size floodlit astro-turf pitch which is used for Hockey, Football and Tennis as well as general training.

Sport in the Junior School is co-educational so all pupils will learn netball and rugby in the Autumn Term, football and hockey in the Spring Term and cricket in the Summer Term. Other sports include gymnastics, dance, athletics, swimming, waterpolo, tennis and cross country. The timetable for the person appointed will include teaching across the Junior School Nursery to Year 6 PE and Games programme and may include some Senior PE lessons. The person appointed should be able to teach to a high standard and will be expected to run teams throughout the year in both the Junior and Senior school, including after school, weekends and, on occasion, during the holidays; leading by example in the promotion of our sport for all policy. Colfe's believes in both competitive sport and sport for all so we run many teams and fixtures so that all pupils have the chance to represent their school at their level.

We are seeking to appoint someone who is an excellent practitioner with the ability to translate rigorous sporting standards into practical and successful outcomes. Teachers appointed to posts are expected to maintain high professional standards and contribute to the co-curricular life of the school. Those who join Colfe's can expect to become part of a caring, purposeful and committed community.

Application procedure

The recruitment process will require all applicants to complete an application form, accompanied by a letter of application, current CV and details of two referees, who will be contacted prior to interview, in accordance with the School's Safer Recruitment procedures. There will be an interview, task and lesson observation for short listed candidates.

The application may be submitted either electronically, to: or by post, to: Mrs A Ross, Human Resources, Colfe's School, Horn Park Lane, London SE12 8AW

Applications should be sent as soon as possible and by 9.00 am on Wednesday 24 April at the latest. Colfe's reserves the right to appoint to this post before the closing date if necessary and we would therefore very much encourage early applications.

Colfe's School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service.
