Lorn Islands Hospital, United Kingdom NHS Highland Full time

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Exciting opportunities have arisen within the laboratory department for experienced HCPC registered biomedical scientists to work in Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry.

Candidates will be enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated, and innovative, with good organisational and communication skills.

The post is multidisciplinary with core hour and out of hours emergency on call service commitments.

The successful applicant, if not already working in a multidisciplinary role, should be qualified and experienced in Haematology and blood transfusion, or biochemistry.

Previous experience, IBMS specialist diploma or MSc or equivalent in one or more of these disciplines are desirable.

If you have an accredited degree or equivalent in Biomedical sciences and are HCPC registered, but you do not hold experience or a qualification in one of these 3 disciplines, consideration would be given for a potential candidate to be taken on at band 5 with progression to band 6 once the relevant specialist portfolio had been attained. Alternatively, on Band 6Annex 21.

Service development: The laboratory is working towards UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation and integrating with the North Highland NHS network. Training will be given to become multidisciplinary and there will be opportunity for a breadth of experience in change management and quality processes supporting the Senior Biomedical Scientists as new automation and new LIMS with associated enabling work are both progressing.

Personal development is actively encouraged and staff will be supported through the BBTS certificate in blood transfusion and the IBMS specialist diploma if required. An MSc can also be considered through distance learning.

You will be assisting in the updating and formation of procedures and processes, working with the team both in Oban and the North Highland Network to bring the laboratory in line with UKAS ISO 15189 standards.

Oban is a busy west coast town surrounded by scenic countryside, only two hours from Glasgow.

It has good rail and road links to the major cities and is also the main port for many island ferries.

If you're keen to combine an excellent, forward thinking, and dynamic working environment with fantastic lifestyle opportunities, then the Laboratory at Lorn and Islands Hospital has everything you need.

Interviews will need to be attended in person at the Oban Lorn and Islands Hospital.
