Location: College Lane campus, Hatfield
We are looking for an Academic Workload Allocation Manager to join the University's strategic planning team based in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor (OVC). This is a newly created post to manage the recently developed academic workload allocation system and the associated processes. We are looking for a committed and creative individual to drive this forward and embed the new system in a collegiate and collaborative manner working with multiple stakeholders.
This is a key role and is a fantastic opportunity to join the growing professional strategic planning team at the heart of the University. You will report to the Head of Planning and work closely with our Executive team, particularly the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and a range of teams from across the University including Deans of schools and academic leads.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Academic Workload Allocation Manager will be responsible for the development, management and embedding of the University's new Workload Allocation Management System (WAMS), and the operational delivery of the academic workload system (both the IT system and the planning aspects), ensuring the aims of the University are met.
They will develop a detailed understanding of the new Academic Workload Allocation Framework (guidance for managers for allocating work to academic staff, and workload activities and tariffs) and the Simitive Workload Allocation Management System (WAMS), including the calculations which drive the system and the associated data imports and exports with other University systems.
As the internal system owner, you will be expected to develop policies and processes for workload management and to collaborate with internal stakeholders and peer universities to identify and implement best practice in workload management. You will also support the University's governance group, senior management, and individual academic staff across the University.
Skills and experience required
Substantial experience in a relevant role (e.g. Workload Manager, Management Information Officer, Data Manager, Data Business Partner), experience using a workload management system and experience in writing, and monitoring the implementation of, new policies and processes and providing guidance to staff are essential for this role.
You will be required to have excellent IT skills and familiarity with common computer software applications including online tools for hybrid working arrangements as well as strong organizational skills and good communication skills with proven tact and diplomacy for working with multiple stakeholders across the University.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of a Degree or equivalent, or experience at an appropriate level.
