Our Transaction Services practice comprises approximately 500 people across the UK, organised to align to KPMG's market orientated structure, and is at the heart of the Firm's agenda to increase its penetration of boardrooms and work with clients across the economic and transaction cycle. Our team works closely with colleagues across Deal Advisory as well as Tax, Audit and other Advisory teams; it is a multi-disciplinary and international environment that sits right at the heart of our One Firm agenda.

KPMG integrates ESG across all key service lines. This is an opportunity to join an ambitious dynamic team during the innovative growth stage within Deal Advisory, to create a unique and exciting proposition to integrate ESG into all aspects of the investment lifecycle as well as shape the future of KPMG's broader ESG offer.

We are seeking an outstanding commercially driven individual with the vision to help grow and deliver our expanding ESG business. The role is for an experienced ESG & deal focused professional and will involve integrating ESG considerations across the full investment cycle (due diligence, ownership, portfolio reviews, exit etc.) for Financial Services, Private Equity and Corporate clients. We envisage that the successful candidate will:

  • Be comfortable in roles spanning the breadth of Deal Advisory execution, and will have a track-record of pursuing opportunities with a relentless "one-firm" approach, including demonstrating deep knowledge of ESG factors across the investment cycle, to bring the right solution to the client;
  • Ideally, have a strong range of existing business relationships within Financial Services, Private Equity, portfolio companies and Corporates;
  • Have experience of working with wider client service teams and sales teams in widening the range of relationships with clients; and
  • Need to be a "self-starter", as the role requires a good deal of autonomy.

Roles & Responsibilities

This appointment is made on the basis of a demonstrated ESG track record of leading multi-disciplinary teams, and building, sustaining and commercialising relationships with clients. The role will also require development of all aspects of the practice:

  • Ability to deliver ESG due diligence projects efficiently, including post-deal ESG advisory;
  • Commercial ESG mindset with translation into business / tangible results;
  • Deep knowledge and passion for ESG and sustainability, ideally gained from a mixture of Big 4 / consultancy and / or industry;
  • Ability to source and deliver ESG-related projects, including successful business development outside of core focus (to include both client and key industry networks);
  • Ability to look for ESG risks and value creation opportunities, and articulate business case to C-suite executives;
  • Organised, strong communication skills, and results-driven with integration of ESG metrics into business outcomes;
  • Experience of using / developing technology as a tool to drive ESG results;
  • A specific slant to a sector (Financial Services, Private Equity, Corporate) and or 'E', 'S' or 'G';
  • Monitoring regulatory developments and connecting with external bodies e.g., PRI, BVCA, ILPA, Invest Europe, SASB or equivalent sector organisations; and
  • Responsible for coaching and performance management of a small number of more junior staff.

Skills / Experience

To succeed in this varied and demanding role you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Strong academic and commercial background;
  • Extensive experience of winning and delivering engagements with an ESG due diligence perspective;
  • The ability to talk credibly to, and evidence of working successfully with, senior management clients on the key issues facing their respective industries, and to understand their business strategies with a view to identifying relevant Deal Advisory opportunities;
  • The ability to lead and develop strong client relationships and a proven track record of commercialising relationships, with particular emphasis on developing new relationships (outright or within clients with existing coverage);
  • A commercial mind-set, with the ability to maximise revenue opportunities for the whole of KPMG;
  • A high degree of resilience and a willingness to work in a deadline driven environment in rapidly changing situations, as well as sometimes with significant autonomy;
  • Strong personal impact, and comfortable dealing with senior and C-suite level stakeholders (inside and outside KPMG); and
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
