Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom CMS Full time
We would love to hear from junior lawyers, including those looking to qualify this summer, who are looking to join our highly regarded Financial Services (FS) team in Edinburgh or in Glasgow.

About CMS

CMS is a Future Facing firm with more than 70 offices in over 40 countries and 5,000 lawyers worldwide. We combine deep local market understanding with a global perspective. We are passionate about building strong relationships with our clients, our people, and the communities we work in.

We take a bold, dynamic, and agile approach to ensure our clients are able to face the future with confidence. We are driven by technology and readily embrace the possibilities it opens up for developing new and better ways of working. Our aim is to inspire, impact and support our clients and our people, helping them to maximize their potential and thrive.

About the Role

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed lawyer to join our Retail Financial Services Team in Scotland, with members based in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The Financial Services (FS) team in CMS is one of the biggest in the City and more broadly in the UK. We have 27 partners and over 100 lawyers, focusing on range of work for and with financial institutions. This scale means our practice includes FS focused transactional work, as well as the typical FS advisory work combining wholesale and retail, contentious and non-contentious expertise across banking, insurance, asset and wealth management and financial intermediation. This is therefore an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further their careers and develop the Firm's Financial Services practice.

The Financial Services Team in Scotland provides transaction support and advice to the Firm's most important FS clients (including banks, long term insurance companies and investment/ asset management companies) in all areas which require specialist FS Law input. The Team also works closely with other groups in the firm to service clients.

The team's work is varied due to the nature of the client base, however, the team tends to focus on the following areas:-
  • Investment Funds
  • Financial Services Compliance & Regulation
  • Long term insurance
  • Investment / Asset/Wealth Management
  • Retail Banking
The particular position that the team is seeking to fill involves potentially supporting all of the areas of the Scottish Team's work.

    About You

We are looking for someone with solid legal skills with an enquiring mind keen to learn.

In the region of 0-3PQE and from a top tier law firm or from a recognised financial institution

Experience of financial services regulatory work, with a genuine interest in the area, and a desire to learn new things and develop your skills

    The ideal candidate will be:
    • Self-motivated
    • Commercially aware
    • A strong team player
    • Ambitious, with the potential to develop and further their career
    • Candidates are expected to be able to show initiative, a keenness to learn and be a self starter.
      Equal Opportunities

At CMS, a next-generation mindset is woven into all we do. We're diverse, supportive and inclusive, embracing our corporate social responsibility and creating a culture of sustainability in which every one of our people, whatever their background, can maximise their potential and thrive.
