The above full-time, fixed-term post is available from September 1st 2024 to August 30th 2025 in the Faculty of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.

The role

The 12-month, fixed-term position of Lecturer in Quantitative Methods (Politics and/or International Relations) is based in the Department of Social and Political Sciences, Philosophy, and Anthropology, and will contribute to its vibrant teaching and research community. The successful candidate will have expertise in R at the advanced level. The statistical expertise should include descriptive and inferential statistics and linear and generalised linear model (aka as regression analysis). The ability to teach 'Introduction to Social Data' is essential.

About you

For a Lecturer post you will:

  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent in Politics/International Relations or a cognate discipline to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning;
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
  • Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching;
  • Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
