The Decision Maker Panel (DMP) is a large and representative monthly survey of British businesses run by the Bank of England in collaboration with academics from, King's College London, University of Nottingham and Stanford University. It is a key source of data for the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) and has been regularly used in the Monetary Policy Report, speeches and academic publications.

We are looking for an individual with a strong academic background, with a good undergraduate degree in economics and a masters degree (or close to completion) in economics or a related discipline. The candidate may be looking to obtain a PhD. The candidate will work with the Decision Maker Panel team for up to 18 months and will have excellent economic understanding, econometrics and data handing skills and an ability to write clearly in English.

The role will involve a combination of:

  • contributing to all aspects of research projects using the DMP data, including data analysis, preparing presentations and contributing to research papers
  • matching the DMP to ONS datasets in the Secure Research Service, analysing the new insights offered by the matched datasets and using these data in research projects
  • Building and maintaining DSGE models to explain our results
  • Writing summaries of the results from each monthly survey, contributing to monthly data releases and working on blogs
  • Developing new ways of analysing data from the DMP

    This is a part time (up to 50% fte) fixed term contract with an immediate start date (negotiable with the successful candidate) with a fixed end date of 19 March 2026.
