KS3 Girls Alternative Provision Lead Teacher

Salary: MPS/ UPS

Are you passionate about providing tailored support for girls with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you believe in the power of nurture, consistency, and high standards to empower young minds? We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team in providing academic and emotional support to SEMH girls, fostering an environment where they can thrive and build a successful future.

The new KS3 SEMH provision is a local authority-funded unit, dedicated to providing specialised support for Key Stage 3 girls with Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs), where SEMH is their primary need. Collaborating closely with the Alternative Provision SENDCO and Assistant Head Teacher Responsible for SEND, you will play a pivotal role in steering the curriculum implementation and nurturing support for these girls.

The new unit will be launching in January 2025 and we are seeking a dedicated candidate to join our team prior to the launch. As part of the planning process, you will have the invaluable opportunity to work closely with the school and local authority in designing the learning environment and curriculum, as well as supporting the transition to the unit for the identified girls. This unique role will allow you to contribute your expertise and vision, shaping the foundation of the provision from the outset.

Initially, the provision will operate on a small scale, with approximately 4 students, gradually expanding to a maximum of 10 as the provision becomes established.

Key Responsibilities

· Delivering the curriculum content with a specific focus on securing core skills in literacy and numeracy as well as providing a broad and balanced academic experience

· Implementing a nurturing and supportive environment conducive to the emotional and academic growth of SEMH girls.

· Maintaining consistency in approach to support, ensuring that every interaction contributes positively to their development.

· Setting and maintaining high academic standards, tailored to the individual needs of each student.

· Collaborating with colleagues and external stakeholders to create and monitor personalised intervention plans to meet the specific needs of each student in line with EHCP targets

· Providing pastoral care and emotional support, helping students develop coping strategies and resilience.

Qualifications and Skills

· Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent qualification.

· Primary school teaching experience, or experience in teaching literacy and numeracy at KS2 academic level.

· Experience, or an interest in working with SEMH students.

· Strong understanding of SEMH needs and strategies to support them effectively.

· Ability to create and deliver engaging and differentiated academic provision.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.

· Resilience, patience, and empathy, with a genuine passion for supporting the development of SEMH girls.

We encourage visits from prospective candidates to meet members of our school community. If you would like to visit the school or talk with a member of the Senior Leadership Team about the post please contact Nikki Purse on
