The Department of Disability, Inclusion and Special Needs (DISN) seeks to appoint Academic and Professional Tutors, Associate Professor, in Educational Psychology to a total of 1.5FTE. The post holder(s) will work on the Applied Educational and Child Psychology Doctorate programme up to a maximum of 0.6FTE pro-rata.

Applicants must be experienced, HCPC-registered educational psychologists who are chartered with the British Psychological Society, and employed as educational psychologist in a local authority educational psychology service. Applicants are expected to bring a demonstrable track record in research and/or other scholarly activity of relevance to applied psychology training and / or practice.

Applicants in full-time employment are expected to have undertaken initial discussions with line managers about the possibility of secondment or part-time release from their local authority post.

Role Summary

The role of Academic and Professional tutor within the Educational Psychology Group supports trainee progress on and completion of the AppEdChPsyD programme. The Programme is a BPS accredited training in professional educational psychology, compliant with the HCPC Standards of Education and Training.

Main Duties

A specific job description covering the appropriate number of working days per year will be negotiated with the post holder(s) before commencement of duties.

Duties will include:

  • direct teaching with trainee educational psychologists in their first, second and third years of training;
  • provision of academic and supervised professional practice supervision for trainee educational psychologists, including liaison with their designated placement supervisors / practice educators;

Person Specification

  • Foundational knowledge, educational psychology practice experience and skills relating to:
    • a range of psychological assessment paradigms and methods, formulation, intervention and evaluation suitable for use with children, young people and young adults across the 0-25 year age continuum;
    • models of consultation;
    • organisational analysis and development;
    • evidence-validated approaches to preventing and / or reducing the severity and enduring impact of difficulties in learning, mental health or other aspects of psycho-social and psycho-educational development, and / or mitigating the influence of special educational needs and disabilities

Generic:

  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a practitioner educational psychologist
  • Doctoral research degree
  • Experience of the full range of educational psychology professional practice
  • One or more area(s) of developed educational psychology specialism
  • Ability to evaluate research in relation to educational psychology practice
