Position Overview

Based at our site in Simonswood, on the border of Merseyside and Lancashire, Puratos are now seeking a 3 month fixed term contract Maintenance Engineer to join our team.

The role is full time working Monday to Friday with flexibility to work both day shift (06:00-14:00) and late shift (12:30-20:30) on a rotating weekly shift pattern, with the need to be flexible in line with business and customer requirements.

The site is commutable from the Liverpool/Southport/Skelmersdale/St Helens/Wigan areas.

Responsibilities

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for providing electrical and/or mechanical skilled support to ensure the safe and efficient running of the end-to-end Production process. In addition, the Engineer will also play an active role in the maintenance of the wider site where required. They will proactively and rigidly promote a safety conscious workplace, ensuring compliance with the Company's Health & Safety policy and adherence to current H&S legislation. Whilst seeking out continuous improvement in all work practices and methods, using Manufacturing Excellence techniques, to identify and implement changes which will bring improvement to one of the 5 manufacturing pillars: Cost, Safety, Service, Quality or People.

The main duties are:

  • Respond to production break downs and any other site maintenance queries in a timely manner ensuring effective prioritization of jobs and tasks following Puratos H&S and Food safety rules and regulations.
  • Complete all planned preventative maintenance (PPMs) as per the prescribed schedule
  • Complete all other pre-planned tasks and work as directed by the Engineering Manager
  • Keeping accurate records and logs in line with business requirements
  • Completion of accurate and effective shift handovers and shift reporting.
  • Overseeing contractors and ensuring contractor control procedures are followed.
  • Contacting and liaising with suppliers and contractors when required, ensuring a professional representation of the business.
  • Identify, propose and implement maintenance improvement projects across the business to ensure the business is working to it's optimum.
  • Completing frequent inspections and quality checks on equipment, machinery, facilities and building through site based CMMS
  • Working closely with management and operators to ensure team members are trained and/or have appropriate awareness levels to handle equipment competently to ensure high performance and reduced maintenance issues.
  • To support with maintenance of the general site to meet levels expected by Insurers and other independent reports and auditory bodies.
  • Compliance with the Company's Quality and HACCP systems and Food Hygiene policies at all times; ensuring no cross contamination and food safety risks are present.
  • Completing all maintenance works with a high regard for Health and safety including leading by example and ensuring no personnel is at any unnecessary and avoidable risk around maintenance work and projects.
  • Supporting the business with high profile visits and audits including BRC
  • Working closely with the Quality, Production and Management teams to identify, action and prevent any non-conformances or improvement areas
  • Develop and implement processes that improve production and deliver quality outputs

  • IOSH – Desirable
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in the food industry or other FMCG – Desirable
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in an Engineering/Maintenance role – Essential
  • Confident user of computers and new technology
  • Good written & verbal communication skills
  • Proven team player, able to work collaboratively at all levels and build partnerships with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent attention to detail, a methodical worker, strong organisation skills
  • Electrical / Mechanical / Mutli-skilled Technician apprenticeship or equivalent approved qualification – Essential
