Background

The International Development Department (IDD), in the School of Government, is looking to recruit a Teaching Fellow in Public Economic Management for a fixed term of 12 months, from 2nd September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

IDD provides postgraduate training in international development and public administration, on-campus and via distance learning. The two Teaching Fellows would principally support the on-campus delivery of the Masters in Public Administration (MPA), the MPA (Finance) and the MPA (Human Resources) as well as the Undergraduate module Economic Perspectives on Development. They will be expected to convene or co-convene 3-4 modules from the Department's MPA-focused modules (HR Development Policy, HR Management and Development, Making Policy, Public Economic Management, Public Financial Management and/or Public Sector Reform) supervise student dissertations and help support on the preparation and delivery of study visits to other countries in 2024 and 2025 (travel restrictions permitting). The successful applicants should demonstrate interest in and, experience of relevance to, low- and middle-income countries.

Role Summary

  • Teaching on Public Economic Management and Economic Perspectives on Development and occasional sessions on other modules as necessary within an established teaching programme.
  • Contribute to the supervision of postgraduate taught students' dissertations.
  • Contribute to the personal tutoring of postgraduate taught students.
  • Contribute to enhancement of the student experience or employability, all under the mentorship and supervision of a mentor academic member of staff.

  • Higher degree relevant to research or teaching area or equivalent qualifications
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to design and deliver module materials successfully
  • Ability to assess and organise resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
