Job Title: Dementia Centre Support Worker

Responsible to: Dementia Centre Co-ordinator

Job Purpose: To provide the efficient and effective operation of the activity centre, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its staff and users and the provision of a range of meaningful and diverse activities

Hours of Work: 36.5 per week

Location: Various locations across the city. Currently 3 locations

Salary: £23,562

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To work with the Dementia Centre Co-ordinator in the planning and development of activities
  2. To implement the agreed planning to ensure a diverse and meaningful range of activities at the centre
  3. To collect and collate activity data, including outputs and outcomes
  4. To write reports to support service level agreement performance returns
  5. To provide day to day support of activity centre volunteers in liaison with the Volunteer Coordinator
  6. To deliver activity programmes when required
  7. Ensure that service users are actively involved in the development and delivery of activities
  8. To ensure that the activity site and its environment is maintained to a high standard and that any health and safety issues are reported immediately to the Dementia Centre Co-ordinator
  9. Adhere to Birmingham Irish Association's policies procedures and practices
  10. Attend supervision meetings, staff meetings, Birmingham Irish Association's AGM, annual appraisal meetings and other meetings as required
  11. Be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and others at work
  12. Undertake any training and development opportunities as agreed with the appropriate manager
  13. Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times
  14. Work in a non-discriminatory manner at all times
  15. Carry out any other duties, which may be determined from time to time by the Management Team, in line with the aims and objectives of Birmingham Irish Association and in keeping with the purpose and grade of the job.

    Person Specification

    Skills and abilities

    Good level of written and oral communication skills

    Competence in the use if IT packages (Microsoft Word, Excel, and email)

    Good organisational skills

    Good level of planning and decision making skills

    Ability to write client records, reports and fulfil data requirements.

    Ability to maintain clear and consistent boundaries with clients.

    Ability to undertake training and maximise learning.

    Good skills in the collection and collation of data and information

    Ability to work effectively as a team player in a collaborative and supportive manner

    Commitment to promoting diversity and equality

    Must have a valid driving licence and use of a car for work.

    Experience/Knowledge

    Experience of engaging effectively with clients.

    Experience of supervising staff and volunteers

    Knowledge of the health and social care sector

    Experience of providing group based activities in a safe and professional setting

    Knowledge of the Irish community and their experiences (desirable)

    Confident

    Be able to take initiative

    Ability to work under pressure

    Organised and excellent time management skills

    Flexibility of working time

    Conform to standards of dress, which reflects a professional service
